NEW STUDY REPORTS MAMMOGRAPHY QUALITY VITAL TO ACCURATE & TIMELY DIAGNOSES

Does WHERE you get your mammogram really matter?
Yes, it does.
Low quality mammograms can increase false positives and screening discomfort, and possibly even delay cancer diagnoses — this according to a study recently published in the Canadian Association of Radiologists Journal. And the quality of mammography screening continues to vary widely and substantially from practice to practice.
The study, conducted by Marie-Hélène Guertin, PhD, and colleagues, notes that compromising the quality of mammograms can lead to lower screening sensitivity as well as delayed or possibly missed cancer diagnosis. In fact, lower overall mammography quality was associated with a 40% increase in the rate of false positives, leading to more anxiety for patients and uneccessary biopsies.
Conversely, high-quality mammography — like the fully digital screening at Chesapeake Medical Imaging — ensures clear visualization of all breast tissue, decreasing false positives and potentially resulting in earlier breast cancer diagnoses.
“It is important for women to not only follow the recommended schedule for annual breast cancer screening, but also to make sure they are receiving high quality testing,” says Dr. Mark Baganz, Founder and Medical Director at Chesapeake Medical Imaging. “Here at CMI, our uncompromising commitment to quality and service affords our patients the most accurate screening and analysis available anywhere.”
